We are working to help existing teams and coaches build a legacy by recruiting younger team members and their parents to take over the team leadership as children and their parents age out of a team.  One way to encourage an existing coach that you and your child should be included on their team is to offer to help in a meaningful way.  All teams are expected to provide volunteers for upcoming tournament events.  Mention that you would be able to volunteer.  This league is for the kids, but it works because of the [parent] volunteers.

FLL is not an organization like the scouts or boys & girls clubs where 40 kids belong to a pack or a troop and they all do things with a minimum of adult volunteers once a month and you and your child can drop in, blending in to the wood work while you feel it out.

FLL will be a very intense season of building, problem solving and teamwork with a small group of friends - usually 7 or 8 kids who will meet for a couple of hours 2 or 3 times a week from labor day through tournament season in November or December.  They'll become close as the season develops, and once they have that comraderie, they may be a little guarded about including a new member.

Often, the better approach to getting your child involved is to identify some friends from school, church, scouts or other organization that share the same passion for building and invention that your child exhibits, and talk to those families about meeting to form a team.

3 children in Littleton/Centennial area

 Hi,

I have three children ages, 13, 12 and soon to be 11 that have all participated in FLL in the past.  We moved to the metro area in August of 2010.  The children participated in Grand Lake on the 2008 and 2009 team.  Their team went to state both years.  I feel that first lego was an exceptional opportunity for my science and engineering minded children to be very successful.  I would love to help assist as an organization type parent.  I do not have great skill with the programming part, but am very organized and can help with the organizational aspect.   I hope to find someone who wishes to help start a team in Centennial/Littleton or the Greenwood Village area.

Thanks!
