Over The Top For Robotics 12 Year Old, Looking For A Team

We are in the Denver Metro area, specifically in the 80111 area code, but we will travel, within reason, to participate on a team.  He is currently  at Campus Middle School.

Ben has extremely an high aptitude and motivation for robotics. He has taken summer camps at Bits, Bytes and Bots the last 4 summers.  After his first robotics camp there, he saved his money and bought an  NXT.  He has been taking items apart and reconfiguring them since he  was six.  He has been identified G/T in both math and science.  This is really his passion!!

We are very interested in becoming involved and helping with the team and the tournaments.  If you are looking for a great asset to your existing team, please let us know.

 Thanks,
 Carol  and Ben Layng

re: looking for a team

Hi skrclevenger,
My name is Kim (kisenhart) & I saw your request for a team. I thought I'd connect with you because I just joined the blog  a week ago & sent a similar message for my 9 year old who is looking for a team.  We are in the same area as you. If you ever hear from a team, I would love to know, too! My son did Bits, Bytes, Bots this summer. I emailed them if they had any info about any teams in the area. They emailed that there aren't any teams in our area (at least for our age group). I did see a high school level team in Littleton. Bits, Bytes, & Bots did suggest trying to start a team on my own with a group of friends or with the help of a science teacher. I had thought about going so far as to email a few schools to garner any interest to try & get something going.
Sincerely, Kim

Want a team

WANT A TEAM

I have a 7-YO student that I have been mentoring for a few years.  I am active in his academics and his two Wolf Cub Scout Dens.  He is an active LEGO Technic and Mindstorms builder and age-appropriate NXT-G 2.1 programmer.

I want him to join a Jr.FLL team with the additional goal to shadow 2012-13 FLL teams and projects.

I’m willing to be an ‘Assistant Coach’ (both Jr.FLL and FLL) and provide other support.
I live in SE Denver (unincorporated Arapahoe, Holly & Yale), the student lives in N Denver and attends 2nd grade DPS in W Denver with me providing transportation.  I suspect he will attend a more academically challenging 3rd grade next year.
Among other, I have an undergraduate degree in EE (Carnegie Mellon, ’68), am retired (’88) CEO/owner from the auto industry, off-&-on (20+ years) volunteer science teacher at CCHS and retired Porsche race car driver.  I have been foster parent to several kids. I have been OM coach for this age with my two adopted sons (now 25 & 36) among lots of other activities.

You can contact me by email at grady clay (no space between the words) at (ampersand) hot mail (no space between the words) dot com.

Have LEGOs, will travel.

Best,
Grady
