Event Day Details:

COACHES:  Accelarate your check in Saturday Morning!  Please use the electronic consent and release forms on TIMS and documented on p11 of the TIMS user guide.  Bring a printed list of all your team members and their consent to registration.   - Thanks!

If you know your volunteers have been approved, but you can't buy your ticket yet, it's probably because the volunteers are not linked to your team.  Please send an e-mail to fll.teams "at" coloradofirst.org, stating the TEAM NUMBER and the volunteer names and we'll link them up.  

The Colorado FLL 2014-World Class Championship at

Westminster High School

  • This event is by invitation only.  After confirming that you'll be attending, you'll see the event appear on your team page.  Registration fee is $75, but you won't be able to pay until your team has 2 volunteer credits - just like most qualifiers.
  • You'll need to recruit volunteers and have them register to volunteer at the event through VIMS.  User guides for VIMS are here.  
  • Judge volunteers (worth two volunteer credits) will need to complete the training videos and certification exam.  Certification lasts for a year, so if you've been certified, your good for the rest of this season.  If you have not been certified, your completion of the certification will set the base line for all our judges and streamline training going forward.  
  • Coaches cannot volunteer for this event - you need to support your team and we need people who can work the event.  You can't do both - recruit now.

  •   6:45 - 7:30 volunteer check in - If you have not completed your electronic Consent & Release form online during team registration, BRING YOUR SIGNED Consent and Release Forms: English / Spanish - one for every participant

  • 8:00 - 8:30 coach/team check in (e.g. "School Entrance"), settle in to your pits
    • Consent and Release Forms should have been completed by team members during electronic registration.  eC&R for adults and for kids on TIMS, (TIMS User Guide, p11).  Please bring the printed Team C&R from TIMS with you to registration.  If you are unable to complete the forms - 2014: English / Spanish - one for every participant, coach or team member, please bring them with you.

  • 9:00 - 11:40 - judging - teamwork, projects, technical interviews - refer to your own team's schedule for exact completion times & room assignments (detailed Team schedules will be found on the team's page).

Code of Conduct

You will be tested on this during Core Values judging!

  • NO EXTRA COMPETITION TABLES!!  Do NOT bring your FLL table to any Qualifier event unless you've made previous arrangements with the Tournament Director.   If you MUST bring an FSK, plan to share it.  Best bet - email your tournament director, Ross Parrent.  He may actually give your team volunteer credit if you PLAN with him to bring your FSK or table IN ADVANCE.
  • Know your FLL Core Values!  Check the first page of the coach's handbook.  This year's judging puts special emphasis on Core Values
  • Know what Gracious Professionalism means, and be prepared with examples of how your team has behaved in this manner.
  • Adults - Kids learn by example!  Teach them to do as you do!  Please review the code of conduct expectations here.

Admission to the tournament is FREE!  Please wear comfortable clothing - especially to the pits and teamwork judging.  Families and guests are welcome in the activity and presentation judging rooms, but please respect the judging process and keep your  numbers and distraction to the teams at a minimum!

Awards 

The 25% of the teams that competed in Qualifiers have advanced to this Championship event.  The expanded awards chart below will award first and second place trophies for each of the following core categories.  There may be one for each of the remaining categories.

Some important details about advancing:

There will be two Champion's Award winners.  The First Place Champion team will have the option to accept an invitation the FIRST World Festival in St. Louis in April.  Should they decline that invitation, the Second Place Champion will have the option.  If the First Place Champion accepts the World Festival invitation, the 2nd Place Champion will have the addtional option of attending the International Open Festival in May.

Most of all, let's make this the best Championship experience ever!  Have fun and take away a wonderful and rewarding experience!

If you did not complete your Consent & Release forms on-line during registration, Please bring current and completed Consent and Release forms with you.  This really speeds up the check in process!  The forms are linked below:
Please see above for driving and parking directions.  Please report to the School between 7 and 7:30 am.  (Unless you're assigned to "check-in", in which case we need you there no later than 6:45, please).

Friday night Set-up

Volunteers!  Setup will begin at 5pm on Friday.  Friday is our training for Saturday -

  • Registration team: registration and check in is the most chaotic period of the day.  Your help in preparing for those first 2 hours will make the rest of the day run smoothly.  
  • Judges and Head Judges.  If you are able to attend Friday, you'll know the details of what to expect from Saturday in advance, and be able to prepare yourselves mentally.  It's totally worth the investment.  
  • Referees, Table Setters and Team members - we have dozens of tables to prepare:
    • Competition Tables, 
    • Practice Tables in the pits, 
    • Judges Tables

 

Your skills with those field kits are never more appreciated than on set-up night.  You've been learning the table and the mission models all season.  Please come help make sure they are correct when we start!

Hospitality Support:

You're assignments are to support the presentation and serving of the volunteer food.

Please plan to check in a bit early on Saturday - 6:30 to 6:45.  This will give us a bit of a head start on the other volunteers checking in at 7 am.  If you're coming from a long way (C Spgs, Ft Collins, Glenwood Spgs), don't worry - get here when you can.  Thanks!
 
We'll need to arrange the breakfast provisions - pastries and burritos - in two locations: the judges briefing (media center, light green) and the volunteer lounge (violet).  Both are shown on the Prairie Middle School floor plan, here.
 
During and following the breakfast rush, we can make sure the snacks and drinks are ready in the volunteer lounge, and plenty of water bottles in the judges space.
 
Lunch will arrive at around 11:30.  Again, we'll need to arrange the food for the two serving locations.

Finally!  Please consider helping us in this position next year.  We'd love to improve our preparedness, and to reduce the need for "team volunteers", especially in these important positions.
