Lego Mindstorms (RCX's) - yes that's when I and my son got involved...

<p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Steve (my son) and Stephen (me) really enjoy LEGO's.&nbsp; We especially like building the really <a target="_blank" href="http://picasaweb.google.com/smmoraco/SomeOfTheMoracoBoysLEGOs#">large models</a>.&nbsp; We built our collection in the very early days of LEGOs appearing on eBay when one could still get better than retail (sometimes 50% of...) deals.&nbsp; This doesn't seem to happen much any more. &lt;sigh&gt;</p> <p>I joined <a target="_blank" href="http://www.lugnet.com/">LUGNET</a> early on and track our <a target="_blank" href="http://www.lugnet.com/people/members/?m=562">sets there</a>.&nbsp; I&nbsp;was also involved for a time in helping develop the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.brickos.org">BrickOS</a> multi-tasking OS&nbsp;/ C++&nbsp;development environment for the RCX's.&nbsp; During this time we played with a lot of puchased but-custom sensors (input multiplexers, etc.)</p> <p>As Steve got into highschool he developed a talent for photography.&nbsp; Near this time my employer (an FLL&nbsp;sponsor)&nbsp;posted ads in our workplace which I followed and became an FLL&nbsp;volunteer and have been each year since.&nbsp; I shortly thereafter invited steve to volunteer with me.&nbsp; (One example of <a target="_blank" href="http://picasaweb.google.com/Colo.FLL.Championship">Steve's pictures</a> from last season.)</p> <p>Our volunteering each year with FLL&nbsp;is due to this wonderful confluence of events and Interests and is a great source of enjoyment each year.&nbsp; Our first year was two events, last year was three events... oh, and some <a target="_blank" href="http://picasaweb.google.com/smmoraco/RookieBooster4Oct2008#">rookie training</a>... are we doing four this year?&nbsp;&nbsp; I&nbsp;guess we'll find out!&nbsp; I'm sure we'll see you there, right!&nbsp; :-)</p> <p>-<em>Stephen</em></p>
